Matcha may be one of the healthiest things you can put in your body. Not only is it rich in cancer-fighting antioxidants (thanks to its abundance of EGCG) but matcha has been shown to reduce inflammation and lower the risk of cardiovascular disease. 

The benefits of matcha also extend to brain function and cognition. Recent research suggests that it decreases stress and anxiety, and improves both memory and short- and long-term cognitive function in humans.[1]

The primary health benefits of matcha stem from its high concentration of EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate). EGCG is known for its myostatin inhibitor properties, which can potentially impact protein powder’s effectiveness in muscle growth. 

In essence, myostatin inhibitors function by blocking the effects of myostatin (a negative regulator of muscle growth), thereby promoting muscle development and strength. When combined with protein powder, the myostatin inhibitory effects of EGCG can enhance the anabolic response to protein supplementation.

Research also suggests that dietary proteins and amino acids can modulate myostatin levels and influence muscle mass gains. For example, studies have demonstrated that certain nutrients like branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) can stimulate the production of IGF-1, an anabolic hormone that suppresses myostatin signaling pathways.[2] 

So, when considering the myostatin-inhibitory properties of EGCG and its interaction with protein powder, it’s plausible that EGCG could complement the effects of protein supplementation by further promoting muscle growth through its ability to inhibit myostatin. This synergy between EGCG and protein powder may contribute to maximizing the effectiveness of protein intake for muscle development and strength.

Despite this flavor being labeled as “Matcha,” it actually contains organic green tea leaf, which are not quite the same. But as the first ingredient in Ka’Chava’s super-greens/vegetable blend, you’re still getting ample EGCG from the green tea.

The protein powder blend is made of yellow pea protein, brown rice protein, sacha inchi, amaranth, and quinoa, providing a diverse amino acid profile to aid in muscle recovery. One serving (2 scoops) provides 25g of protein, along with 22g of carbs and 8g of fat.

Ka’Chava is not 100% organic, but pretty close. It’s entirely plant-based and delivers an incredible amount of nutrients, making it a favorite among many, including myself. It’s a proper meal replacement powder that checks all the boxes.
