If you’re like me and you love peanut butter protein powder, then PB2 Performance Peanut Protein is a must-try.
Now that it’s available at my local grocery store, it’s a product that I frequently purchase for many reasons.
PB2 Performance Peanut Protein is more than just a peanut-based protein powder. It’s a complete protein source with all essential amino acids, a fantastic source of fiber, and one of the best vegan protein powders in terms of taste.

Nutritional Review: What’s in PB2 Protein Powder?
PB2 Performance Peanut Protein is a simple product that’s largely comprised of roasted peanuts and brown rice as the protein source. This combination makes for a complete protein powder.
With slightly higher calories, PB2 packs more fat and carbs compared to most vegan protein powders. It’s a delicious choice if you like decadent protein powders designed for building strength and growing muscle.
There are only six ingredients in this product, which is far less compared to some protein powders. Depending on the flavor you choose, you get 6 to 8 grams of fiber per serving, which comes from added inulin from Jerusalem artichoke.
While I already consume a lot of fibrous, plant-based foods, I definitely notice the difference in regularity when I consume a couple of scoops of PB2 Performance the day before.
More than just a protein supplement with 20 grams per serving, the product has between 4 and 5 grams of fat and 17 grams of carbohydrates. It also doubles as a meal replacement, depending on how you use it.
Although it does contain questionable “natural flavors,” PB2 Protein is sweetened with monk fruit extract, a low-glycemic sweetener that has little or no effect on a person’s blood sugar levels.[1]
Although it’s not an organic protein powder, it is non-GMO certified and gluten-free. Arguably most importantly, both flavors have a delicious taste that helps elevate smoothies and oatmeal or are simply good on their own as a late-night pudding snack.
PB2 Performance Peanut Protein is truly one of the best peanut butter protein products with roasted peanuts being the main ingredient, not just a peanut butter flavored product. Peanuts provide a quality source of protein that’s rich in many essential amino acids.[2]
Flavor Review: Does PB2 Protein Powder Taste Good?
As I mentioned from the start, I frequently purchase PB2 Performance Protein Powder, not just for its simple and complete nutritional profile, but because it tastes great.
It’s available in two flavors: Madagascar Vanilla and Dutch Cocoa. Although I tend to favor vanilla protein powders for their versatility, with PB2 protein powder I prefer the Dutch Cocoa for its rich chocolatey flavor.
PB2 Performance Peanut Protein with Dutch Cocoa
Dutch chocolate is made from a smooth, semi-sweet variety of cocoa that gives hot chocolate its famous deliciousness. This is probably why I find it so nostalgic and comforting.
In the case of PB2 Protein Powder Dutch Cocoa flavor, it has a rich, dark taste with earthy and woodsy notes that are far less bitter compared to natural cocoa. It’s sweet (maybe 7 out of 10) but not overwhelmingly sweet.
Dutch chocolate itself is often associated with a mellow chocolatey flavor due to the Dutch alkalization process, which reduces its natural acidity and gives it a smoother taste and darker color.

PB2 Performance Peanut Protein with Madagascar Vanilla
Madagascar vanilla offers a sweet, creamy, and rich flavor with a buttery-like taste. It has a distinct aroma profile and a delicious flavor that pairs well with the peanut butter taste.
Madagascar vanilla beans are processed using the “Bourbon” curing method, making it the gold standard of vanilla due to its exceptionally high levels of the natural chemical compound vanillin and its unique flavor bouquet.
If you like a decadent and complex flavor in your protein powder, this is one to try.

Price Review: Is PB2 Performance Protein Powder Worth It?
PB2 protein powder is typically priced in the low $20 range (currently $22 on Amazon at the time of publishing), which is a 2-pound tub with 20 servings and 20 grams of protein per serving.
Compared to other vegan protein powders on the market, this is a great deal that provides a lot of quality protein at a great price.
In short, yes, PB2 Performance Peanut Protein Powder is definitely worth it. It’s a terrific option for athletic-minded individuals such as myself who prioritize a balanced amino acid blend for recovery and quality ingredients.
