Perhaps the most popular flavor among plant-based protein powder, vanilla is a common option across a variety of brands. It’s also one of my favorites.

When other alternatives like chocolate or berry-flavored protein powder are too specific, vanilla is a universal option that’s fantastic for fruit smoothies, oatmeal, and decadent desserts.

From Vega and Garden of Life to PlantFusion and Sunwarrior, there’s a wide spectrum of vanilla vegan protein powders out there. While some of them taste great, others are awful and overburdened with stevia and artificial flavors.

Having cut through the clutter, I’ve found several favorite plant-based protein powder vanilla flavors that I consider my go-to’s. Here are some of them.

1. PlantFusion Complete Protein Creamy Vanilla Bean

PlantFusion Complete Protein Powder Plant-based Vanilla

PlantFusion Complete Protein Vanilla Bean has a balanced flavor profile that works well in just about anything you put it in. It’s mildly sweet, very smooth and creamy, and absolutely delicious.

It’s almost hard to believe that Complete Protein Vanilla Bean doesn’t contain dairy. Just by itself with lightly sweetened plant milk, the protein powder is a creamy vanilla milkshake made from plants.

Not only does it taste great, but PlantFusion Complete Protein doesn’t skimp on nutrition either. It’s grain-free, gluten-free, and soy-free, as well as 100% organic and non-GMO. The protein powder blend is pea, artichoke, sprouted amaranth, and quinoa.

2. Orgain Organic Plant-based Protein Powder Vanilla

It’s hard not to believe that this protein powder is dairy/whey-free because it taste reminiscent of a vanilla milkshake. Orgain’s Plant-based Protein Powder Vanilla flavor is a bit more on the sweet side, but it’s a welcome characteristic for green smoothies and other creations that need a flavor boost.

After some previous complaints about the stevia aftertaste in Orgain Organic Plant-based Protein Powder, the company made improvements to the product line. Now, it’s better than ever and one of the best-tasting vegan protein powders that I’ve had. I purchase this product regularly because of its taste, nutrition, and cost value.

Designed around Orgain’s Organic Protein Blend, the powder contains an amino-rich blend of pea, brown rice, chia seed, and hemp. If you like the vanilla plant-based protein powder, then also look out for other flavors like Peanut Butter, Iced Matcha Latte, and Creamy Chocolate Fudge. They’re all incredible!

3. Garden of Life Raw Organic Protein Vanilla

If you’re looking for a great-tasting vanilla plant-based protein powder that doesn’t compromise on nutrition, Garden of Life’s flagship Raw Organic Protein is a terrific choice.

In addition to nicely sweetened Vanilla, this product comes in a Vanilla Chai flavor as well. The Vanilla Chai has a warming chai spice flavor that’s natural and well-balanced with the vanilla bean. If you like vanilla protein powders and chai spice, then this is a great alternative worth trying. There’s also an Unflavored option that’s a stevia-free vegan protein powder.

Garden of Life Raw Organic Protein comes equipped with a powerhouse of vitamins and minerals, including Magnesium, Manganese, Zinc, Selenium, and Molybdenum, along with Vitamins A, E, D, and K.

You can usually find Garden of Life Raw Organic at any natural foods store or online at Amazon. See the full review

4. OWYN Plant Protein Powder Smooth Vanilla

OWYN Plant-based Protein Powder Vanilla

OWYN, or Only What You Need, is a less-known but high-quality brand that makes a fantastic plant-based vanilla protein powder. As the name implies it has a smooth and malty flavor that’s perfectly sweet and very creamy.

In addition to 4 grams of cane sugar per two-scoop serving, OWYN Plant Protein Powder Smooth Vanilla is sweetened with monk fruit stevia. Not only is it stevia-free, but it’s notably clean, being labeled as an allergen-friendly, multi-source plant protein blend with probiotics and a superfoods greens blend.

The protein blend itself is pea, pumpkin seed, and chia, which is a unique grain-free combination that still packs a high concentration of amino acids and BCAAs. All of OWYN Plant Protein Powders are free from major allergens, like dairy, soy, gluten, egg, and nuts.

5. Vega Sport Protein Vanilla

Vega Sport Protein powder is a popular option for its recovery properties in optimizing athletic performance. It’s definitely one of the more stevia-forward vanilla protein powders out there, so buyer be warned. But if you’re okay with tastefully-infused stevia as the primary sweetener, then you’ll probably like it.

It has a mildly earthy and nutty taste that’s sweet and creamy. In addition to vanilla, try out the peanut butter flavor of Vega Sport. It’s a great option if you like peanut butter and use your vegan protein powder for oats, decadent smoothies, puddings, and other creative ideas.

Vega Sport Protein Pea protein offers an original blend of pumpkin seed, sunflower seed, and alfalfa, making it grain- and gluten-free. It also provides a high serving of amino acids and BCAAs, including other performance-minded ingredients like turmeric, tart cherry, and bromelain.

6. Sunwarrior Warrior Blend Vanilla

Sunwarrior Warrior Blend is a flagship product in the world of plant-based protein powders. Its vanilla flavor is very mellow and mildly sweet, making of a great addition to just about anything from smoothies to desserts. The taste is slightly custardy and with nutty hints that remind me of almond, macadamia nut, or brazil nut.

Sunwarrior Warrior Blend is entirely grain-free, making it a paleo-friendly protein powder. There’s also no sugar and just 1 gram of carbohydrates, so it’s also ketogenic-friendly. It’s also soy, gluten, dairy, and GMO-free.

The plant protein blend itself contains pea, hemp, and goji berry. In addition to its high amino acid profile, it’s also made with MCT oil, so the keto folks will appreciate the ingredients list.

7. Garden of Life Sport Organic Plant-Based Protein Vanilla

Garden of Life Sport Organic Plant Based Protein Review

Sport Organic Plant-Based Protein from Garden of Life is a high-quality product that comes at a slightly higher price tag, but for good reasons. In addition to being 100% organic and non-GMO, this plant-based protein powder is nutritionally stacked with athletes in mind.

Not only does it contain a rich concentration of amino acids, l-glutamine, and probiotics for recovery, but it’s also soy-free, gluten-free, keto-friendly, and paleo-friendly. The protein blend contains pea, sprouted navy bean, sprouted lentil bean, sprouted garbanzo bean, and cranberry.

As for taste, this Garden of Life Sport Organic Plant-Based Protein Vanilla is one of the most mellow in terms of sweetness. Some might argue that it’s not sweet at all, but it does offer just a hint of vanilla and it’s probably a 2 out of 10 on the sweet scale. Still, it tastes great, offers a creamy texture, and is a stealth addition to any application.
