![Three Primary Flavors of OWYN Plant-based Protein Powder in Review](https://veganproteinpowder.reviews/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/OWYN-Protein-Powder-Review-1024x498.png)
OWYN protein powder might not be as popular as the big-name brands.
But it stands out as one of the best-tasting, stevia-free protein powders that provides high-quality nutrition compared to most.
OWYN (Only What You Need) has quickly become a prolific brand in the wellness space. Known for its pre-made protein shakes and protein powders, OWYN can be found a major grocery chains, and of course, online.
My experience with OWYN protein powder
![OWYN Protein Powder on Grocery Store Shelf](https://veganproteinpowder.reviews/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/OWYN-Protein-Powder-on-Shelf-1024x689.jpg)
As a frequent consumer of OWYN products, I purchase both the shakes and protein powders regularly. The shakes are an easy, on-the-go option when I am on the road. But OWYN protein powder is my all-time go-to for many reasons.
I live an active lifestyle as a semi-professional cyclist with an affinity toward “alt” races, or off-road/gravel bike races of long distances. Exploring different plant proteins has been a byproduct of my active life as a bike racer.
But I am not the only one in my family that enjoys OWYN. Both my dad and I agree that it ranks as one of the best protein powders for its delicious taste. But it also doesn’t skimp on ingredients/nutrition either.
As part of his battle against cancer, my dad and I make green smoothies almost daily. Not only is OWYN his top pick for taste, but the superfood greens blend delivers much-needed nourishment.
Below is my comprehensive OWYN protein powder review, focusing on the nutrition, taste, and price point. Or, check it out on Amazon for more info and review.
Nutritional Review: What’s in OWYN protein powder?
OWYN’s Protein Blend consists of 3 simple sources: pea, pumpkin, and chia. It’s a grain-free vegan protein powder that packs a healthy balance of aminos.
![OWYN Protein Powder Ingredients](https://veganproteinpowder.reviews/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/OWYN-Protein-Powder-Ingredients.png)
In addition to being a rich source of plant-based protein, OWYN contains a superfood greens blend with kale, spinach, and broccoli. It also contains 10M CFU Probiotics (Lactospore Bacillus Coagulans) in every serving, aiding in gut health.
A serving of OWYN protein powder provides a solid 20 grams of protein, which contains all essential amino acids (EAAs) and 3.8 grams of branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) per serving.
![OWYN Protein Powder Nutrition & Amino Acids](https://veganproteinpowder.reviews/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/OWYN-Protein-Powder-Nutrition-Amino-acids-1024x655.png)
That’s not a high amount compared to other sport proteins that provide over 5 grams of BCAAs, which is a high priority for some athletes. But it is plenty sufficient for most individuals and on par with other products in its class.
While OWYN might be mid-pack in terms of muscle recovery and gains, it’s what it doesn’t contain that makes it stand out.
OWYN protein powder is free of the top 8 allergens, including dairy, soy, egg, peanuts, tree nuts, and gluten/wheat. It’s also free from artificial sweeteners and sugar alcohols, making it a suitable choice for those seeking a clean and natural-tasting protein powder.
OWYN is not keto, despite what it might claim to be. I think we can all agree that 4 grams of sugar and 7-8 grams of carbs is not considered a keto-friendly protein powder. But alas, it’s real sugar.
The one downside is that OWYN is not entirely organic. It is non-GMO and entirely vegan, but OWYN is not an organic protein source.
Flavor Review: Does OWYN protein powder taste good?
![Does OWYN Protein Powder taste good?](https://veganproteinpowder.reviews/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/OWYN-protein-powder-taste-good-1024x676.jpg)
Dovetailing on my nutritional review above, OWYN probably tastes better than most protein powders because it uses real sugar. Organic cane sugar, to be exact. I am a big fan of this.
I am also a fan of the fact that OWYN protein powder not only tastes good but also smells good.
You may be surprised at how many protein powders smell funky (usually those that contain artificial ingredients, stevia, and other additives). OWYN has an inviting aroma and gives you an honest whiff of what it tastes like.
I have only had the smooth vanilla and chocolate flavors of OWYN protein powder. I’ll update this review as I try more.
OWYN Smooth Vanilla Review
![OWYN Smooth Vanilla Protein Powder Review](https://veganproteinpowder.reviews/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/OWYN-Smooth-Vanilla-Protein-Powder-Review-1024x837.png)
Nowhere near grainy in texture, OWYN is one of the smoothest protein powders I’ve had. The Smooth Vanilla flavor has sweet, creamy, and beany flavor, and the texture is incredibly milky and deceptively not dairy.
I like that it’s fairly sweet (maybe a 7 out of 10), but it’s naturally sweet with a pleasant taste that doesn’t seem to get old. It’s one of my favorite vanilla-flavor protein powders.
One look at the powder and you can tell OWYN is quite a refined product. It mixes well and dissolves into anything, including hot coffee. I highly recommend OWYN Smooth Vanilla if you’re into decadent, sweet-tasting options.
OWYN Chocolate Review
![OWYN Chocolate Protein Powder Review](https://veganproteinpowder.reviews/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/OWYN-Chocolate-Protein-Powder-Review-1024x837.png)
Like the vanilla flavor, OWYN Chocolate protein powder packs a punch. It has a strong chocolate flavor that’s deliciously rich and sweet. It has a dark, cocoa-forward taste instead of a milky flavor like many chocolate protein powders.
While I don’t use this flavor in smoothies as much as I do vanilla, OWYN Chocolate is a dessert-like choice. I like to add it to oatmeal, chia seeds with coconut milk, or mixed by itself with water or plant milk for a late-night protein ‘pudding’.
Price Review: Is OWYN worth it?
![OWYN Plant Protein Powder Review](https://veganproteinpowder.reviews/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/OWYN-Plant-Protein-Powder-Review-1024x593.png)
A 2.2-pound tub of OWYN protein powder comes in at the $39.99 price point. While this might seem high, it’s on par for a larger-sized tub that provides 28 servings (with 20 grams of protein per serving).
It does come in available in different sizes, so prices may fluctuate. But overall, I think I think OWYN protein powder is worth it given its premium taste and solid nutritional density.
It may not be an organic protein powder, but OWYN is priced fair and accordingly is several dollars less than a 2.2-pound tub of Garden of Life.
I am not the only one who raves about OWYN protein powder. If you look at what people are saying on Amazon, you’ll find many fan favorites for OWYN in the vegan protein powder category.
If you’ve tried OWYN protein powder, leave your review in the comments.

I noticed that OWYN products are not listed as having a third-party accreditation. While they claim to on their website, there is no actual evidence that supports their claims. What is your opinion on their claims as being a clean-label?

I noticed that, too. My opinion is that if a brand doesn't publish third-party test results to the public, it's not being fully transparent and should be questioned. It's unfortunate, as I really like the taste and nutritional profile of OWYN's products. But they drop the ball when it comes to being considered truly clean.

What is your take on the pre-made, bottled OWYN shakes?

I really enjoy the pre-made protein shakes from OWYN! I'd probably give them a 6 out of 10 in terms of taste, but they're fairly clean compared to a lot of other plant-based protein shake options out there. The 32g/high-protein options are also one of the few that are legitimately keto-friendly and won't elevate insulin levels like some of those with a ton of synthetic sweeteners and sugar alcohols.
